Dear GLSA Family

U.S. Soccer Federation Policy 531-9 on Referee Abuse, which officially went into effect on March 1, 2025. These updates are designed to strengthen protections for referees at all levels of the game and ensure a safer environment for match officials.

Key Policy Updates:

  • Stronger Enforcement Measures: Increased penalties for referee abuse and assault, including longer suspensions and potential lifetime bans.
  • Expanded Definitions: Clearer distinctions between abuse and assault, including verbal threats, intimidation, and social media harassment.
  • New Reporting Procedures: A streamlined process for referees to report incidents and for governing bodies to take disciplinary action.

To help you better understand these updates, we have included a short video from U.S. Soccer explaining the changes. We encourage all Member Associations, clubs, coaches, players, and parents to watch and familiarize themselves with the new policy.

About the GLSA

The Greater Longview Soccer Association (GLSA) was formed in 1976. It operated its program on three fields at the YMCA and one field at LeTourneau College until 1979. There were approximately 60 players that first year. By 1980, it had grown to nearly 1,000 players and had to expand its playing facilities.
